The Situation:
As a hybrid manufacturing/distribution enterprise, The Matworks needed a comprehensive enterprise business system that offered tremendous versatility - and that could expand as their needs grew.

They realized their current legacy-based accounting system did not offer full manufacturing and distribution functionality and that the system also lacked open systems needed to integrate with other enterprise software applications.

The Matworks had an eye on the future and realized that eventually they would need an enterprise system with a distributed architecture that could support multiple facilities.

They also needed a powerful sales force automation solution that would provide detailed reporting functionality for remote sales representatives and would assist with their telesales transactions and sales calls.

The Solution:
The Matworks worked with a systems selection consulting firm to narrow the field of software vendors that matched their needs. From the list of finalists, The Matworks invited three to present demos - and, in the end, a committee of The Matworks department heads chose Verticent.

Today, the Matworks is using Verticent ERP enterprise software suite and has plans to add Web features of Verticent's eSeries.

For The Matworks, Verticent SFA application [part of Verticent ERP] offers two primary benefits. First they are deploying SFA as a sales reporting tool for their remote sales reps. Secondly, The Matworks recently launched a telesales effort and is using SFA to record telesales transactions and upload work lists for sales calls.

Bill Kumbar, director of information technology with The Matworks, said, "SFA will help us pull remote sales data under the corporate umbrella. We're continuing to stress to our team that this is a tool that will help them get more business."

Key integrations for The Matworks team have included barcoding with RF Gen tied into the Verticent ERP system to help track inventory moves by barcode. The Matworks also successfully integrated Verticent ERP with its UPS computer. As a result, they have streamlined their shipping operations and saved an hour of labor each day from the shipping manager.
