Overview

This course provides participants with an understanding of the recommended process for customizing Verticent applications code and the process that should be used to do this. Also, the course examines the methods to use in order to apply Verticent releases and patches to customized Verticent applications.

Prerequisites

Fast Track to PowerBuilder course completed or equivalent experience Recommended Power Builder experience of at least six months Knowledge of the Verticent applications

Who should attend?

This course is intended for PowerBuilder developers. At least one Senior Developer or Manager from each development site should attend this class. This course will provide adequate in house expertise in the processes of customizing the Verticent applications. It will also provide expertise in the application of patches to customized code.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course you should be able to:

• Customize the Verticent applications using methods that provide a standardized approach and make the process easier to accomplish
• Apply patches to the Verticent applications by using the Verticent recommended methods

Course Aim

Unit 1 - PowerBuilder Customizations

• What are the custom pbls.
• What is the function of custom pbls.
• PowerBuilder Customizations

Objectives:
After completing this course you will be able to:

• Describe what the custom pbls do
• Understand the function of custom pls

 

Unit 2 - Database and Stored Procedures

• Database Customizations
• Stored Procedure and Trigger Customizations
• How to modify Stored procedures and triggers to best provide for an upgrade patch for future releases and Verticent maintenance patches.

Objectives:
After completing this unit, you will be able to:

• Modify the existing PowerBuilder code in the Verticent applications in such a way as to minimize the problems caused by upgrading to future release and maintenance patches.
• Know the procedure for adding tables when customizing Verticent's databases
• Understand the necessity of documenting changes to stored procedures and of archiving the originals

 

Unit 3 - Patches

• Description of the process required to customize PowerBuilder code used in the Verticent applications.
• What are patch pbls?
• What is the function of the patch pbls?
• How the customer obtains patches
• Installing patches
• Reviewing patches for custom added changes
• Reviewing patches for client side changes
• Reviewing patches to the client application
• Reviewing the patch for database changes
• Applying the changes to the database

Objectives:
After completing this unit, you will be able to:

• Modify the existing PowerBuilder code in the Verticent applications in such way as to minimize the problems caused by upgrading to future release and maintenance patches.
• Describe the patch pbls
• List the functions of patch pbls
• Know how customers can obtain patches
• Apply maintenance patches to customized Verticent applications

Unit 4

Customization Workshop
This hands on workshop guides participants through a customization and an upgrade of a suite of Verticent applications that has been customized.

• Customizing PowerBuilder objects
• Making stored procedure changes
• Database changes

Objectives:
After completing this unit, you will be able to:

• Perform Customizations on PowerBuilder objects within the Verticent applications
• Perform changes to Stored procedures and triggers
• Make database changes that will not be effected by upgrade
• Install the new source code of each application and apply customizations to the new code
• Install the databases for each application
• Run the custom database scripts
• Compile the custom source libraries for each of the applications
• Overlay run time libraries for each application
